Types of Herpes

First, let us say that herpes is spread by a virus. As such, there is no cure. People with herpes have to be careful not to spread it to their partners.

There are two forms of the herpes virus. One is the herpes simplex virus 1 (HSV-1). This is the virus that most often leads to oral herpes. This is a herpes infection that occurs in or around the mouth area.

Second is herpes simplex virus 2 (HSV-2). This strain of the virus often leads to genital herpes. Lesions occur on or around the genitals.

Symptoms and Signs of Shingles

Shingles is a viral infection that is caused by the same virus that is responsible for chickenpox. It can be a painful condition that shows up mostly in older adults.

Oral Herpes and How to Treat It

Oral herpes occurs around the mouth, inside the mouth, on the lips, gums and even the tongue. These painful sores show up and can stay for a couple of weeks to a month. The virus is spread by contact with erupted infected sores. It is easy to catch.

Complications with Shingles

Shingles is like chickenpox but only because of the offending virus. Usually, a rash will form on the back of the torso and loop around one side of the body until it reaches the breastbone. Within the rash are many blisters that are filled with fluid. When they open up, you are able to spread the condition to other parts of your body as well as to other people. Anyone infected with shingles will not develop that condition but chickenpox.
