Flattering Swimwear for Different Body Types

Swimsuit season, you gotta love it. Regardless of how wonderful our body is, we still struggle to find the confidence and courage to step outside in a swimsuit. A good swimsuit can make all the difference. A well designed and fitting swimsuit can turn your attitude around. Here are 15 tips to find flattering swimwear for different body types.

  1. Look for a swimsuit that is in a nice solid fabric. Flimsy fabrics not only don’t last very long, they don’t cling to your body and baggy doesn’t flatter. It just makes you look bigger.
  2. Dark colors slim your body. Look for blues, blacks, purples and even burgundy.
  3. If you have a large bust, make sure your swimsuit has the support you need.
  4. Choose swimsuits that flatter your assets and conceal those parts of your body that are not necessarily your strong points.
  5. If you have large hips and thighs, look for a swimsuit with a skirt or look for a high cut leg. The longer leg will help your legs and rear end appear slimmer.
  6. For a less than flat midsection, choose a swimsuit with ruching across the midsection. It will give the appearance of a waist and conceal any potential bulges.
  7. Look for a swimsuit that offers control in the areas you need it – at least 15% spandex.
  8. Always look for a swimsuit that is lined, particularly if the suit is a lighter color. There’s nothing worse than a see through swimsuit!
  9. One pieces flatter all body types.
  10. Generally, tankinis are not as flattering as you may think they are. A one piece can hug your curves, flatter and conceal at the same time. A tankini generally just covers up.
  11. Lines create optical illusions. Want your flat chest to look bigger? Get horizontal lines across your swimsuit top. Want your rear end to look smaller? Consider vertical lines or a solid print.
  12. If you’re slim and want to add a bit of volume, consider a swimsuit in a lighter color or a reflective material.
  13. Enhance a thick waist with a belt
  14. Enhance a small chest with a padded top or a push up style top.
