Fit To Run

You definitely want to feel comfortable when you are running. There are so many factors to consider: your pace, your breathing, and your stride. The last thing your mind needs to be on is your chest. When you wear the wrong bra it is all that is on your mind.

Problems of Poor Bras

A regular bra is not going to cut it when you are out running. A daily bra is there for support as you move about normally. When you run, there is more movement going on than you experience on a day-to-day basis.

A regular bra will cause problems. First, the straps can cut into your shoulders. These cotton straps aren’t made to stay in place with such heavy movement. The friction can lead to sore spots.

Secondly, a regular bra doesn’t provide the support you need when moving. You will experience just as much side to side and up and down movement as if you were jogging to your car to get out of the rain. Over a long period of time, this will hurt your chest and your back.

Sports Bra

The best way to solve this problem is to choose a bra that works for you and is made for vigorous activity. Here are a few rules for picking the correct running bra.

Choose one that fits – This goes without saying, but some women feel like they need a bra that is smaller to keep their breasts in place. That is not so. You want to be comfortable. That means choosing a bra that is the right cup and band size comparable to your regular bra.

Choose the right fabric – If you plan on taking up running as a sport, you will be running farther and farther distances. This requires a fabric that breathes so you don’t have all of that sweat next to your skin. Choose a wicking material like Dri-Fit.

Find a bra that cradles each breast – Shelf bras don’t work because they have just one compartment for both breasts. A sports bra has a separate area for each breast and one is not rubbing against the other.

Choose a bra for the right activity – If you plan to run, a high impact bra will provide the most stability without mashing your breasts to do so.

Have it professionally sized – Let a woman expert recommend the proper size, shape, material and fit for you.

Sports bras are not like regular bras. They are specifically for sports and to maintain comfort and stability without pain.
