Funny and uplifting despite Matilda is gifted and defeats the baddies with superpowers that none of us have. But it is a good tale of how a child overcomes her parents neglect, child abuse at school, and more just because she has good friends and a kind teacher takes an interest. There is a movie based in this story by Road Dahl. However in the movie the plot has been shortened. As always, many more things happen in the book, so it is worth reading, even if you enjoy the film.

This is a Christmas story that makes us believe in miracles. It looks almost real, as if it could happen to anyone. Mara Wilson plays the little girl very well. She is adorable.
