Making Chores Fun
Making Chores And Daily Tasks Fun For Kids
Toddlers love to do as they see adults do. They like chores and you will be surprised how much they can do, as long as the tools are of a suitable tiny size for them to handle, and how much fun they have. It is all a game to them. Unfortunately, this does not last.
Help your toddler to be tidy from the start, set rules such as no toy can be taken out of the box until the previous one they have been playing with is put back in - say on the shelf, or other designated place.
When children have friends and hobbies, there is where their time goes. If they will keep forgetting or procrastinating, may be some help with time management will do the trick. Most times, they will need some convincing to chip in with daily chores and help home.
Something a simple as creating a list of chores where they can tick one once completed will turn your chidren from forgetful kids into chores wizards.
How To Motivate Children To Do Chores
Find below some suggestion to motivate children to do chores and make daily chores fun for them.
- Make a sticker chart – Children love recognition and to see their progress on the chart is often enough motivation. This works for young children.
- Use a rewards system - Each chore equals X amount of points and XY amount of points amount to getting to do Z.
- 15 minute dash competition - Set the timer and see who gets the most done in 15 minutes
- Make it a challenge – If you say “I bet I can get this done before you,” your children will try to prove you wrong and have fun trying. You can add a reward and also say “if you beat me I’ll make spaghetti for dinner.” Say spaghetti or other favorite dinner.
- Offer up a small allowance - money is a motivator even for kids. They know they can get things they want with that money.
- Trade chore time for play time – This will attract computer or video game crazy kids, but it can be traded for whatever they like time. Trade time in equal amounts - 1 hour of completing chores equals 1 hour of video games this week.
- Make a duel scavenger hunt and cleaning chore list - Such as clean this and find this, clean here and find that, clean over here and find this.
- Do the fling - Put a basket in the middle of the room and fling all the toys into it, or use the trash bin and fling all the trash into it, depending on what your clean goal is.
When chores are fun and do not seem to be a chore any more, children are more willing to help. Not only you will be getting some relief; you will be teaching them essential skills and helping them to develop good habits that will last for life, as well.
