Kwanzaa Crafts

Find some Kwanzaa crafts to to with the kids.

  1. Kwanzaa colors for your crafts: black, red and green. Black symbolizes the color of the people, red is for their struggle and green is for the future.
  2. Create the symbols of Kwanzaa in your crafts: Mazao (crops), Mkeka (the mat), Kinara (candle holder), Muhindi (corn), Mishumaa Saba (seven candles), Kikombe cha Umoja (unity cup) and Zawadi (gifts).
  3. Decorate a long stemmed cup with green, black and red beads to make your own unique unity cup or Umoja.
  4. Brown painted egg carton cups can be turned into Kinara, a candleholder for Kwanzaa.
  5. Kwanzaa handprint wreath: Trace and cut out handprints in green, black and red. Arrange and glue them in the form of a wreath.
  6. Make a corn collage for Kwanzaa: Cut out corn stalk shapes with green construction paper. Fill the center by gluing popped corn inside.
